Whitegate Development Corporation and SKIPA Sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The Whitegate Development Corporation (WGDC) has taken another bold step in advancing its mission with the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the St. Kitts Investment Promotion Agency (SKIPA). This strategic partnership represents a powerful alignment of vision and purpose—aimed at attracting meaningful investments and expanding economic opportunities within the Whitegate Development Area (WDA).

As outlined in WGDC’s 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, investment attraction is a cornerstone of the Corporation’s advocacy goals. The agreement with SKIPA signals a clear commitment to positioning the WDA as a hub for transformative, sustainable, and inclusive development.

A Partnership Built on Purpose

The Whitegate Development Corporation is a state-owned entity with a clear and compelling mandate: to transform the rural economy of St. Kitts through inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development. WGDC operates under the authority of the Whitegate Development Corporation Act (No. 15 of 1999) and is committed to building vibrant communities supported by physical, social, and economic infrastructure.

SKIPA’s role in promoting and facilitating domestic and foreign direct investment in priority sectors aligns closely with WGDC’s strategic priorities—especially in areas such as real estate, tourism, agriculture, and small enterprise development. This partnership will enhance collaboration on marketing, project packaging, investor facilitation, and policy advocacy—all critical components in creating an investor-ready environment in the WDA.

Driving Economic and Community Growth

WGDC’s strategic goals span economic development, quality of life improvements, community empowerment, and sustainability. The Corporation is actively pursuing:

  • Diverse housing options
  • Mixed-use developments and cultural hubs
  • Agricultural innovation and eco-tourism projects
  • Infrastructure investments including roads, connectivity, and a fisheries complex
  • Educational and entrepreneurial initiatives to build community leadership and capacity

The MOU with SKIPA will help unlock funding, mobilize private-sector involvement, and create new spaces for opportunity—from small business hubs to large-scale real estate ventures.

Looking Ahead

The MOU marks a pivotal moment in WGDC’s journey to build a resilient, inclusive, and investor-friendly development space. It represents not only a handshake between two institutions—but a shared commitment to reimagine the economic landscape of rural St. Kitts.

As WGDC continues to execute its Strategic Plan, partnerships like this one will be essential in achieving a Sustainable Island State—one where communities thrive, businesses grow, and the potential of every citizen is realized.

We welcome all stakeholders—investors, community leaders, development partners, and citizens—to be a part of this transformation.
