Traditionally, the Board of Directors has shaped the short-term priorities for the WGDC through the preparation of an annual work plan. These priorities have been centered around and supportive of GSKN’s overall economic and social development policies.
The development of the SP will allow the core areas and priorities of the corporation to be captured in the goals and strategies presented herein. This plan in conjunction with annual work plans will guide the work of the Corporation over the next five years.
The objectives of the WGDC are articulated in Section 5 of the Whitegate Development Corporation Act. Essentially,
WGDC operates under two core service/thematic areas. These are:
WGDC advocates on behalf of the communities to create a vibrant, equitable and sustainable rural landscape. WGDC works with GSKN and other key stakeholders to implement best practices in rural economic development.
WGDC seeks to encourage the building of vibrant communities by supporting unique physical/environmental, social, economic and cultural connections. WGDC provides support and opportunities for individuals and community groups to engage in various initiatives.
